7 Kick-Butt Strategies to
Make Your Lead-Gen Sizzle

When I ask people what their most critical business need is, nearly everyone asks for more leads.

That’s probably a huge misconception since most business owners don’t effectively manage and develop those leads.

In future issues, we’ll dive into the best ways you can take your existing leads and grow them into future clients and customers (Hint: This newsletter is one of the ways I do it!).

So let’s scratch your itch for more leads today.

Fasten your seatbelt and let's dive in!

1. The 'Give 'Em What They Can't Ignore' Offer

Remember when you couldn't walk past the free samples at Costco without grabbing one (or five)? That's your lead magnet.

But here's the kicker: it can't just be good; it needs to be "I'd be crazy to pass this up" great. “Good” is average. You need to deliver “WOW!”

Case in Point: Imagine you're a fitness coach. Instead of the usual "10 Tips to Lose Weight," consider offering “The 7 Steps to Your Irresistibly Sexy Body…Even if You Think You're Hopeless”.

It speaks to the result that they really want—ie no one cares about “losing weight”—they want to look attractive, feel healthier, improve their sex lives and if they’re single, attract the perfect partner.

2. Be the Pied Piper: Attracting Your Ideal Crowd

Not everyone's going to be your perfect customer or client, and that's cool. Focus on drawing in people who resonate with you—and who you want to work with. Use your content like a flute melody that only your ideal clients can hear.

There are a few lessons here, but we’ll cover just two:

First, your content can do some of the sifting for you.

For example, I could introduce myself this way:

“I’m Ken Krell and I help high-dollar online advertisers get free advertising from Google.” That statement eliminates those that don’t advertise and those with small ad budgets).

Then, run your promotions where your perfect target lives:

Storytime: Picture a surfer dude selling eco-friendly wax. He's not spamming ads at the chess club. He's out there on the beach, Instagramming epic waves and waxing poetic (pun intended) about ocean preservation. His tribe hears the melody, loud and clear.

3. Content That's Like Bacon for Vegans

Yup, you heard me. Your content needs to be so compelling that even those who think they're not interested can't help but take a peek. It's about mixing value with personality – a dash of humor, a pinch of sass, and a whole lot of useful.

For Instance: Say you're in the dry world of accounting. Why not spice up your blog with posts like "5 Ways Taxes are More Fun Than a Root Canal" or "How to Save Money Like Scrooge McDuck"? Entertain as you educate!

4. The Power of the 'Cool Kids' Table

Referrals and partnerships can be your golden ticket. It's like being invited to sit at the cool kids' table – instant credibility and access to a whole new lunchroom of potential leads.

I grew my business primarily using relationships to generate my leads and sales. Frankly, it appealed to the lazy side of me, and I continue to use this strategy today.

Consider This: There's a web designer who partnered with a popular local coffee shop. They displayed his quirky, coffee-themed designs, and in return, he plugged their beans on his site. Mutual love, mutual growth.

5. Test, Tweak, Repeat: The Mad Scientist Method

Lead-gen isn't set-it-and-forget-it. It's more like a batch of homemade brew – it needs tasting, tweaking, and sometimes, starting from scratch. Run small experiments, let the data guide you, and avoid getting depressed when things don’t go according to plan (they RARELY go according to plan!).

Case Study: A boutique owner tried two Instagram ad versions: one with a sleek, fashion-forward vibe and another featuring real customers with their quirky, happy dances. Guess which one blew up? Real people, real moves!

Most of the time, your intuition will be wrong—so you need to remember: ABT—Always Be Testing!

6. Make 'Em an Offer on the Thank-You Page They Can't Refuse

You've got their attention, they've snagged your irresistible lead magnet, and now they're on your thank-you page. Don't just say "Thanks" and wave goodbye. Make a soft, irresistible offer right then and there. Don’t worry—you won’t offend them if you do it properly!!

Imagine This: After downloading your free eBook on vintage car restoration, your leads land on a thank-you page that offers an exclusive webinar with a classic car restoration expert. It's like finding an extra prize at the bottom of the cereal box.

Remember—you’re taking your prospect on a journey, so there should always be a “next step”.

7. Keep It Real, Keep It Relatable

In the end, people connect with people, not faceless brands. Share your stories, your goof-ups, and your victories. Be as authentic as a home-cooked meal at grandma's house.

Getting Real: During an important speaking event with about 500 people in the audience, I made a dramatic arm gesture that knocked my notes all over the stage. The audience gasped.

I looked at them, then at the notes strewn all over the stage. Then I looked back at them and said “I bet you’re glad that’s not you!”.

The audience broke out in hysterics, and we had one of our best sales days ever.

One more thing: For the love of everything holy, talk to people as if you’re talking to a single person—not a group. NEVER send an email saying “Hey guys”! While some people may say that you can have multiple personalities, you’re just one person!

There you have it – 7 dynamite strategies to pump up your lead-gen efforts. Remember, in the world of business, it's not just about what you're selling; it's about how you sell it and how you connect. Now go out there and don’t just make some noise, close some business!
